What is the Palm Street Collective?

The Palm Street Collective is a loose-knit group that supports the creation and exhibition of grassroots, DIY, indie, experimental, and art cinema shorts, features, and documentaries, primarily made in the South and/or outside major media and art markets.

Our goal is to bring back a counter culture, to allow filmmakers and artists to experiment, play, tackle difficult and unusual topics, and to feel the freedom to truly make films and art they are passionate about. From distributors to film festivals, there are too many gatekeepers constraining about we can say, make, and do. It’s time to be free.

We do this through the following means:

  1. We provide a platform for the exhibition of films through this website. In particular, we try to support films that have not received support through traditional outlets like distribution companies and film festivals. We look to support films that meet or more of the following criteria:

    1. Working on a DYI or grassroots level

    2. Working with a Low/No Budget financing model

    3. Experimenting with stylistic and formal norms of film in the art cinema and indie vein

    4. Creating complex, three dimensional characters with empathy (whether they are likable or not)

Because we work on an individual contribution basis, rather than a subscription basis, any contributions you make go 100% toward the filmmaker.

  1. Creative support. The Palm Street Collective supports individual filmmakers through creative inspiration , resources, and advice, including a lending library for local artists and filmmakers.

  2. Occasionally, the Palm Street Collective also co-produces or produces films.

Why subscribe?

Subscription is 100% FREE. You’ll never miss a film. Every time we post a new film, you’ll get an email letting you know. And the more subscribers we have, the more filmmakers who will be interested in including their films, which means more films from you to choose from.

And by being a subscriber you become a supporter of DIY, grassroots, artistic filmmaking and part of the larger community of the Palm Street Collective.

How can I support the filmmakers and artists on Palm Street Collective?

Any filmmaker who opts-in can include links to payment services (PayPal, Vimeo, etc.) on their film’s page. Viewers can choose to make a contribution of any amount to support that film or the filmmakers future projects. We suggest a contribution equal to to the normal rental fees on major streaming services: $6.00 for a feature and $2.00 for a short film. Because each artist list their own payment links, 100% of your support goes directly to the artist.

What are our future plans?

Our initial plan is to build the number of films and filmmakers we host on Palm Street Collective. As we grow, we’d love to start featuring other artists, including photographers and visual artists.
